Nature is Fickle: Will a Sudden Deep Freeze Destroy Tulip Tree Buds?

Category: Climate Change, Hiking, Trees – Admin – 8:45 pm

I got in a quickie to the lake in a break in the rain. The air was warm this afternoon.

In the last eight hours the air temperature has plummeted 25 degrees and the winds are howling at 15-20 miles per hour, with gusts in excess of 45 mph.

I’m sure a layer of ice lies under the snow that has been falling.

It was mid December the last time the weather was so brutally cold.Nature is fickle. There may be 3-5 inches of snow on the ground by morning.

The winds will determine whether I venture out. I hate to lose hiking time, but high winds and icy terrain make certain hikes impossible

The weather forecast predicts a cold, windy day tomorrow. But by mid week, it will warm up again.

I wonder if the Tulip Trees buds will survive this storm?
