Today was another long hike on a day that I can only describe as a symphony in gray.
A frozen cascade was the only vestige of winter on a northwest-facing slope. It’s probably 40-something degrees. Thick cumulonimbus clouds with a few holes let the sun cast intermittent shadows.
The clouds are mauve grey, the skeletal trees are silver grey, and the lichen-covered rocks are green gray.
Turkey vultures surf the air currents, chickadees and titmouse exchange calls. There’s a light breeze.
This view will change radically when the leaves open.
