Once I have a list of supplies, I check out Sierra Trading Post where I usually find just what I need. Even if the item turns out to be less than perfect, Sierra Trading has an unbeatable return policy.
I’m delighted with the short-sleeve Quik-Dry T-shirts I ordered. I’m wearing the aqua shirt in my home page photo and those are my hiking boots. I need a hat, socks and a few other essentials. I got a terrific deal on new snowshoes. I hope this winter gives me lots of snowshoe days.
I recently had my zippers replaced in three of my seven JanSport packs. Sierra Trading Post only carries two JanSport packs, both large. JanSport guarantees their packs for life. If I had an affiliate relationship with them, I’d actively tell people to order these packs. They’re indestructible and when I need a zipper replaced, JanSport honors their promise every time.
In fact, the pack in my photo is a brand new . My last JanSport pack was deemed by the company to be worn out; they sent me a new pack. I must have had it for fifteen years. Now THAT’s my idea of standing behind your product.
When I find a product or service I like, I stick with it. If the product is no longer made, I have it custom made. I’ll shop sales or thrift stores for bargains, but when it comes to outdoor gear, safety and manageability take priority.
One of my two internal frame packs is custom made for just this reason.
I’ll comb my articles, after I order supplies, for a list of my favorite products and resources. Off the top of my head, I’ve blogged on Larabars, my Swiss Army knife, Ziploc plastic bags, Epsom salts and just about everything that contributes to my enjoyment of nature.
If it falls under the category of clothing, footwear or basic equipment, I’ll start with Sierra Trading Post. I don’t know if they will add to their inventory, but if they ever choose to sell Permethrin, Sierra Trading Post may well end up being my one-stop shopping place.
