Grasses are more than dependable survival fare. Their uses include the simple, child-friendly grass whistle.
This nature-game is perfect for one or more players.
You Need:
- One blade of grass half-inch wide
- Your two thumbs
How to Play:
1. Lay the grass blade on the outside edge of one thumb.
2. Hold the grass in place with the edges of your hands below your thumbs.
3. Place the outside edge of your other thumb along the exposed grass blade.
4. Make sure the grass is flat and taut between the gap in your two thumbs.
5. Holding your thumbs together, bring your hands up to your mouth.
6. Blow through the gap in your thumbs onto the edge of the grass blade.
This makes a shrill, trumpet-like sound that I still can’t resist on a summer day.
