Summer Solstice Images on the Trail

Nature’s Cathedral

My early morning nature hikes make me feel like I am in a holy place. With images like this, what other way is there to see the natural world?

I am becoming increasingly concerned about our disconnect from the natural world. Yes, nature is messy and unpredictable, but what have we gained living a life of predictability?

I am convinced that if I don’t get out and hike every day, then my favorite open spaces will disappear. Use it or lose it.

I’m also concerned that as we continue to neglect our responsibility to the natural world, we will eventually create conditions for a major storm.

So I make it a point to really spend time and appreciate the change from spring to summer. Soon the days will begin to get shorter. The plants, birds and mammals will mature. Life is precious.

  1. Amazing photo of the overgrown road, JJ. It makes me homesick for my farm. Use it or lose it? I agree.

I love your new site and new look and feel. You have created an online presence as inviting and compelling as the natural world you capture on film. Thanks for making the Internet a prettier place to be!

  2. I love your website. You are going to be an inspiration to me I am sure! I found your place on accident as I was looking for ideas for nature journals as I am going to be leading a group of home schooled children on adventures in field biology this fall. We must be kindred souls as I am also a writer of sorts, I do a column called From These Hills for a small local newspaper. Nature, farming and the Creator are my main subjects. You truly get to spend lots of time out of doors even sleeping there at nights! I have a feeling that I will be coming back many times to see what you are up to. Your pictures are divine! Nice to meet you, Trend
