Despite a lack of rain, some trees manage to produce beautiful colors.

White oak acorns are tasty, once you remove the tannic acid. They are much easier to peel than black walnuts and you can freeze them in the shell until you’re ready to use them.

Sassafras leaves and berries are pretty to look at. As far as I know, only the root is used for making tea.
