Freewrite Thoughts on Survival

Category: Survival – jj_murphy – 7:01 am

I don’t spend time efficiently, according to the business models.

I spent weeks scrubbing the hulls of black walnuts, when I could have been marketing myself. I have never looked at the world through conventional eyes; I’m beginning to feel very blessed to have my skewed point of view.

As I watch my country and the dominant culture collapse, I feel a deep sadness for my fellow humans who invested their lives and their time in consumerism.

I’m not getting any younger. The thought of retreating into the woods for shelter, water, food and safety is tough. But at least I have a clue of what to do should a hurricane or wild fire hit my community - and I survive.

The climate is changing, regardless of the reasons. I’ve never seen such a long leaf season. Tornadoes were not a weather event in this area until about 10 years ago. Ice storms replace winter snow storms. Am I afraid of tornadoes and ice storms? Not afraid, but determined to spend more time learning about the natural world and developing my problem-solving skills.

Terrorism, racism and other forms of xenophobia are used by people with a very ugly agenda. I have no time to fear terrorists. If you read original 1930’s documents, Hitler seems positively sane compared to Bush.

Faith allows me to put my efforts into supporting sustainable technology. I’ve secured a working share at a new CSA for next year. I’d much rather spend the time pulling edible weeds than traveling to a restaurant. I have an opportunity to take a winter survival course and a mushroom identification course.

I know the answers to survival are deeply rooted in the natural world. I’m not made of plastic or kevlar. I’m made of the same organic materials that give life to plants, animals and everything alive.

I won’t let fear dominate my thoughts. I have faith that I’ll be where I’m supposed to be, doing what I am supposed to be doing.
