I was surprised and delighted to hear from a fellow forager, who has streamlined black walnut harvesting. I’m waiting for the ice storms to pass, so I can go outdoors and try it out.
I profoundly grateful that Rose Barlow of Prodigal Gardens, took the time to visit my site and make a valuable contribution. Of course, I wanted to learn more about her so I paid her a visit.Â
I am blown away by the amount of information this expert forager shares. Most of my research has turned up acorn flour recipes. Now, thanks to Rose, I finally have options for preparing white oak acorns. I cannot wait to try acorn burgers.
This site is well-organized and filled with information on the nutritional value, as well as when and to harvest each plant. The recipes are not complicated and there are trouble-shooting tips, to prevent culinary disasters.
Rose Barlow lives in the Midwest, but every plant she features grows in my neck of the Hudson Valley. Prodigal Gardens is a valuable addition to my foraging library.
