I’m always looking for ways to improve the way I walk my naturalist writer talk. In order to improve my skills, I have to fine-tune my thinking.
I’ve struggled with trying to live online and off the grid. There’s no real way to be proficient both simultaneously. So, I settle for living sustainably, given my circumstances. I work hard to balance the goal I have set for myself and the time and energy I devote to reaching that goal.
It’s wiser to drive the 14 miles to the farm than to bike and then haul my CSA share back on a bike. I can use my physical energy to work the land. Weeding, mulching and watering are slow processes, but that gives me time to sort out my thoughts.

I know my hands move differently and my posture is different when reading a book or working on the computer.
For the next week, I’ll really be in the field. There are still places on the planet with no cell phone or Internet connection. I’ve already packed my notebook, pencils and pens. My field notes will turn up in future posts.
